Marie-France MacKinnon - Media Contact

Marie-France MacKinnon is a highly skilled, bilingual communications professional who brings over a decade of media relations, communications strategies and special events expertise to Bluesky Strategy Group. Since joining Bluesky Strategy Group in October 2008, Marie-France has provided a full range of communications and public relations services including media training for clients such as the Canadian Heart Health Strategy and Action Plan, the National Capital Commission Ombudsman, the Maple Leaf Foods Legal Noticing Campaign and the Canadian International Hockey Academy, TerraChoice/EcoLogo and the Parliamentary Budget Officer.

From 2007-October 2008, she was been a consultant for the NHL’s Dallas Stars SuperSkills Hockey Camp, Okanagan Hockey Schools – the world’s largest hockey school and most recently with Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council. From 2005-2007, she was the Media Specialist at the Canadian Institutes of Health Research. Within a year, she increased the organization’s media exposure by 300% in English media and by 500% in French media. Marie-France also coordinated media training, issues management and interview preparation for a number of CIHR executives and research staff including contentious issues such as stem cell research and research ethics.

Ms MacKinnon spent 2004 in Toronto as Manager of Media Relations for Visa Canada where she was the French spokesperson for the company. She worked on developing and executing various communications strategies for internal clients but her main focus was the strategy for bringing to market the new Visa cards that will have chip and PIN technology by 2010. She was also responsible for media training their Olympic sponsored athletes and executing events for Team Visa.

From 1998 to 2003, Marie-France was employed at the Ottawa office of a national public relation firm, where she honed her media relations, communications, media training, events specialist, project management, and issues management skills. She has a breadth of experience in both the private and public sector as her clients ranges from fashion to sports, beer to government.

Marie-France holds a Bachelor of Arts in communication and leisure studies. She enjoys kickboxing and is a passionate hockey fan.
